I’ll admit it. I do love those huge chain bookstores. The type that sell weird knickknacks and collectibles, and have almost as many random decor products as they do books.
And these may be my go-to places when the newest book is released in a favourite fantasy series, or when I need to find gifts for the fellow bookworms in my life, but still nothing could ever beat an independent bookstore.
The plethora of little corner bookshops and quirky hidden gems are what dreams are made of for bibliophiles such as myself. And one store that certainly lives up to those dreams is Dave Shoots, Bookseller in Saint John, NB.
Only two blocks away from Saint John’s city market, Dave Shoots Bookseller specializes in rare and antique hardcovers. They also carry an amazing collection of books depicting the town’s local history.
The first time I visited this little shop, I think I spent the first few minutes fascinated by the bizarre entrance. With their storefront run out of an 1827 mansion, the shop is characterised by an inwardly curved mahogany front door.
Definitely an off the beaten track find, I never go to Saint John without stopping in. In fact, I’ve bought some of my favourite books here, including a beautiful copy of The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland, which inspired the name of this blog!
For any booklovers passing through Saint John, I definitely recommend stepping in to experience the wonders of Dave Shoots, Bookseller.
